Forty years ago on July 16, 1969, Apollo 11 blasted off to the moon carrying the two men who would be the first to walk on the moon. I was almost 12 at the time. It was too cloudy to see the launch from my Florida West Coast home (we occasionally got to see a launch from Clearwater) so I watched it on TV just like most Americans. I remember it being a hopeful time. I thought life was going to be different. It sure didn't work out the way I thought.
